On 17 August 2026, L’Avenir published a long portrait of Hugo Lamock, presented as a valuable addition to RSC Habay’s defence. A good opportunity for us to tell the story of a defender we are proud to represent.
In short · 20 years old · born in Anderlecht · left-footed centre-back · 1.85 m · trained at Tubize, KAA Gent and KV Mechelen · 20 caps for Belgium U16 and U17
Trained at the highest level
Five seasons at Tubize, five at KAA Gent, two at KV Mechelen: Hugo grew up in some of the best youth academies in the country. With Belgium’s youth teams, he won fourteen caps at U16 level and six at U17 level, facing France, Argentina, Portugal, Italy and the Netherlands in international tournaments.

A year to come back
In September 2024, just after a pre-season with KV Mechelen’s first-team squad and with a call-up to the U19s waiting for him, pubalgia stopped him in his tracks. A season of treatment, then surgery in May 2025: Hugo lost a year, but not his drive. He says it plainly: injuries are part of a footballer’s life, and he refuses to live with regrets.
An injury slows a career down. It does not erase it.
Why Habay
Mechelen offered him an extension, but only to stay in the B team. RSC Habay offered what a 20-year-old defender needs: playing time in the first team, in the Nationale 1, surrounded by adults. That is the project we presented to him, and Hugo signed for two seasons. A deliberate springboard: his goal remains a professional career.
The change is personal too. Hugo has left Enghien to settle in Étalle, close to the club. As a semi-professional at Habay, he trains in the evening and is considering going back to his studies during the day. A balance we encourage, because a career is also prepared off the pitch.
A left-footer made for a back three
Naturally left-footed, Hugo has always played at the back: preferably in the centre, at left-back when needed. At Habay, where the team often lines up with three centre-backs, this versatility comes at just the right time. His first weeks have confirmed the good impression: a squad that gets on well, healthy competition, and a Belgian Cup qualification against La Calamine to kick off the season.
A fun fact: although he was born in Anderlecht, Hugo has never worn the purple shirt… and admits to a soft spot for the atmosphere at Sclessin.
